Why is Python the future?

What is Python?

Python is a programming language that is object-oriented, popular, and multipurpose. When it comes to programming, kids can use this language to create web applications, develop software, and it also has applications in game development, system administration, and machine learning. Furthermore, Python has marked its space in programming and is ranked #3 in the list of the most used programming languages used by developers globally. (Source: Statista, 2021) Its basic, crisp, and modular style make it a simple language to learn. The language has evolved from when it was introduced in December 1989 (version 1.0) to the current date (version 3.10.4 released on 24th March 2022).

How can learning the Python programming language help kids?

  •  Easy to understand for beginners

The syntax of Python is concise and easily readable; therefore, kids understand this quickly. Moreover, Python is an integrated programming language, i.e., one can run the codes immediately after writing them. Hence, kids can quickly check whether they need to code, helping them expedite the programming process.

  • Versatile use cases

Python is a versatile language with more than 125,000 libraries. (pre-written codes) Hence, kids can use pre-existing code to develop new applications and websites or develop new software or games. Python can also run with other languages like JavaScript and C.

  • Pseudocode

Python pseudocode refers to an algorithmic representation of a code. Hence, one cannot directly create a code. Kids need first to create a Python pseudocode, and only then can the code be translated into an actual code. The pseudocode is an informal way of showing a code, and it is easy to understand for beginner-level programmers.

  • Open Source

Python is open-source software that permits the user to distribute software copies, access its source code, and do modifications. It is freely distributable and usable and can also be used for commercial purposes. So, no matter what the kids want to develop, it can easily be created.

Why is Python the programming language of the future?

  • Can be used for both back-end and front-end development

Python can be used for both front-end (the practice of producing CSS, HTML, and Javascript for a website) and back-end (server-side development) development. Front-end development refers to the elements visible on a website that an individual can interact with, and back-end development focuses on what users can’t use.

  • Used for cross-platform OS

Python can be utilised for cross-platform operating systems such as Linux, Windows, and Mac. This feature makes it even more convenient to create new applications. As a result, Python is the most used programming language for most web applications and even for game development for desktops.

  • Powerful community

This sort of programming language has a booming community with more than millions of developers who stay in touch through multiple virtual and physical places. Moreover, this community of Python developers is committed to the expansion and progress of Python together with its third-party libraries. Hence, as a part of this community, developers can continue to interact, enhance their skills, and come together to develop new websites, games, and mobile applications.

  • Can be used for Web development

Web development is the area where a programming language like Python shines. This language endows with multiple frameworks such as bottle.py, Django, CherryPy, Flask, Pyramid, and web2py. These have been utilized in a few widely held websites, such as the Washington Post, Yelp, Mozilla, Spotify, and Reddit. It is a programming language that will continuously improve in the future, turning a complex task like web development to get simpler and faster than ever before. For a programming language like Python, we can say that it will never be outdated in the future.

  • Can be used for network automation

Python is utilised for controlling, observing, and troubleshooting network elements. The most significant benefit of the technique is that it helps boost network security by identifying and rectifying security issues and increasing network stability. Python represents the future of network automation as it allows the creation of scripts to automate even the most complex network configurations. When it comes to software-defined networking, Python is widely used.

  • Python helps with artificial intelligence and machine learning

Python’s syntax is written in the C language, and its modules like TensorFlow can be used to train models for machine learning. Python’s algorithms can be tied to any language, making the code writing process fast. Some applications of Python in machine learning include the function of AutoCAD, that takes the gradient of any graph, or in-built loss functions that judge errors in predictions and analyse how far away data is from the truth. For instance, the Adam Optimizer and SGD optimizer are algorithms that can be converted into functions using Python. Any combination of algorithms can be used for predictions or data classification. For example, there may be a dataset based on factors like age, physical activity, diet, etc., and Python can be used to predict which people have a probability of developing heart disease based on data.

Game Physics for Kids: How Do Video Games Make Movement Feel Real?

A character jumps across a platform, lands on the ground, and continues running. It looks effortless. But behind that simple movement, a game is performing calculations that determine how high the character jumps, how quickly it falls, and exactly when its feet touch the platform. These movements are not accidental. They are created through programming and mathematical rules. Understanding game physics for kids introduces an interesting connection between gaming, coding, and real-world science. For children who enjoy playing video games, discovering how movement works behind the screen can make game development an engaging learning experience. Instead of simply controlling a character, students begin understanding the rules that make the character respond. What Is Game Physics for Kids? Game physics refers to the mathematical rules and programming systems that simulate movement and physical interactions inside video games. In real life, objects respond to forces such as gravity and friction. Video games recreate selected aspects of these behaviours using calculations. For example, a game might need to determine: These behaviours are controlled through programming. However, game physics does not always need to imitate reality perfectly. A superhero might jump unusually high. A racing car might turn more sharply than a real vehicle. Developers adjust physical rules to create the experience they want players to have. How Does Gravity Work in Video Games? Gravity is one of the most recognisable concepts in game physics. When a character jumps, it initially moves upward, slows down, and eventually begins falling. In many games, this effect is created by changing the character’s vertical velocity over time. Velocity describes how quickly an object moves and in which direction. Gravity changes that velocity, causing the character to accelerate downward. A Simple Example of Coding Gravity Imagine a game character standing on a platform. When the player presses the jump button, the program gives the character an upward velocity.

Pseudocode for Kids: Why Learning to Plan Before Coding Makes a Difference

Your child sits down to build a simple program. They know what they want it to do, but after writing a few lines of code, they get stuck. The problem might not be the programming language. It could be that they haven’t decided exactly how the program should work. This is where pseudocode for kids becomes a useful learning tool. Pseudocode helps students organise their ideas into clear instructions before translating them into actual programming code. Instead of immediately worrying about brackets, spelling or syntax, children can focus on the logic behind their solution. For parents exploring coding education, understanding pseudocode offers a useful perspective on what happens before a successful program is written. What Is Pseudocode in Coding? Pseudocode is a simplified way of describing the steps a computer program should follow. It uses ordinary language combined with basic programming concepts such as conditions, repetition and instructions. Unlike Python, JavaScript or other programming languages, pseudocode cannot be executed directly by a computer. Its purpose is to describe the logic of a solution clearly enough that someone can later convert it into working code. For example, imagine a program that checks whether a student has completed their homework. The pseudocode could look like this: This example introduces a conditional statement without requiring the child to memorise the syntax of a particular programming language. Educational resources from Oak National Academy also describe pseudocode as a language-independent way of representing algorithms.  Oak National Academy Why Should Children Learn Pseudocode Before Writing Code? Writing instructions before coding encourages children to separate two different challenges: deciding what a program should do and learning how to express those instructions in a programming language. 1. It Helps Children Organise Their Thinking A programming idea may seem simple until a student tries to explain every step. Consider a program that recommends an activity depending on the weather. The child needs to decide what information the program receives, what conditions it checks and how it selects an answer. Pseudocode provides a structure for arranging these decisions logically. 2. It Makes Programming Logic Easier to Examine Imagine a child designing a program that checks whether someone qualifies for a library membership. Before writing code, they need to decide what happens when the user meets the requirements and what happens when they do not.
